Salon Z looks from Amanda Uprichard, Alice & Trixie and Lewis Cho
Not one to be outdone Salon Z seems to be stepping up its game - with new editions from popular designers like Alice & Trixie, Lewis Cho, Maiya and Amanda Uprichard they seem to really be trying to update things. While these aren't full collections - only about three pieces per designer - I like that some of the hip labels you'd see on Shopbop or Net-A-Porter are adapting their popular styles for larger sizes. Its about time don't you think? Though I do see a bit of my pet peeve jersey fabric I'm happy to see even more silks. Everything Salon Z goes up to size 24 but the good stuff goes quickly. Everything is available for pre-order at the moment but it should be in stores / ship out soon.
See anything you're interested in? Personally I'm jonesing for the Alice & Trixie Cassandra Dress in the Moroccan black color but I find myself tempted by quite a few of items. I really hope Saks expands these collections and continues them -all of these designers have larger collections for straight sizes so it would be nice to see all the same options for plus.

I think Saks is the only high-end retailer that has the clout and presence that can offer a wide range of things for their plus customer.
Neiman Marcus dropped the ball years ago -- they had NM Woman's Studio and cut those departments around the beginning of the decade. Nordstrom's Encore is hit and miss.
Even though I am on the stately/conservative Marina Rinaldi/Ellen Tracy/Lafayette 148 sartorial train as a 40-something, it's always a good thing to have variety.
Hopefully, Saks did do some market research and again, can balance because plus departments in department stores do have to be all things to all people.
I am so very jealous you guys get some stylin' clothing in plus sizes! Although I do agree, most of our 'better quality' stuff is rather matronly as well. Sigh. If only these stores shipped here, or if only shipping wasn't so damned expensive.
Having said that, I can still dream. :D Lovin' that blue dress from Amanda Uprichard -- perfect colour.
Agreed, Sak's is limited. I mean in both variety of styles, as well as *number* - I spot check them every 2-3 weeks and find it pointless they bother to have the department because it's so empty. For those types of prices you'd better not offer me something ugly, poorly constructed, or made of a sad and uninspiring fabric or color.
Nordstrom is the only high end retailer offering quality pieces in a wide selection of age groups and styles, and incorporating casual, business, evening, and feminine styles. They aren't perfect, either, and sometimes offer some truly sad pieces, but I see them as the only serious upscale department store presence in this category. For example, they carry Svoboda, Rachel Pally, and Michael Kors - showing a serious interest in trying to stay current and trendy.
Regardless ... for the most part I have to do my shopping across about 10 different plus size stores, buying a piece here and there to build my closet into some semblance of chic.
hi, i love your blog and I linked you on my blog, is this ok? please let me know if its not
I LOVE YOUR BLOG!! I like some of the items from Amanda Uprichard. So cool, but I do agree, Nordstrom has more goin' on. Better choices, more chic! I'm 34 but I don't look it. Some of the items at Salon Z, I feel, are toooo old.

That's awesome news! And that blue dress must get in my closet now.
I so disagree. Saks is so much better quality wise, at least in LA, than Nordstrom. Nordstrom has more trendy clothes, that's for sure, but I'd say the quality is equal to that of Macys and Bloomingdales, (Also, I'm not a fan of Rachel Palley. I think the stuff is so unflattering, at least for me) whereas Saks is much higher quality. They have Lafayette which is high quality and a few others.
However, I DO agree that Salon Z has been for some time getting dowdier and dowdier. I had basically been shopping at Marina Rinaldi but I went in to Saks yesterday and found this new label/designer that they're working with...Magaschoni. I bought a lot of that and Marina and all of it was very chic, hip and rather surprising for Saks. I was really impressed with this Magaschoni it's way cooler than Ellen Tracy or Eileen Fisher etc. Lafayette is extremely high quality, but a bit more classic. I feel like if you mix the more trendy with the classics and even a bit from cheaper stores, you can look very stylish. also that Amanda Uprichard is cool as well.
Nordstrom is my favorite store for cool casual and party dresses!! I love to shop at here all kids of prefect dresses...
